The work of the Committee includes:

  • promoting the 17 October message and the observance of the UN Day in Ireland,
  • organising a national commemoration every year on the very date of the UN Day,
  • networking with and supporting all the NGOs or community groups who mark or plan to mark the U Day,
  • caring for the “17 October Human Rights and Poverty Stone” laid on the Custom House Quay in Dublin 1

The yearly cost of running the work of the Irish 17 October Committee is €12,000 to €15,000. In 2019, the planned expenditures in draft budget of the Committee reach €15,000 to cover the costs of the UNN Day events.

The expenses are covered by dedicated grants from the Social Inclusion Division of the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, a grant by the French Foundation All Together in Dignity (Fondation ATD, Paris) and donations from Irish friends of the Committee.

The aim of the Committee is to secure sustainability from Irish sources of funding.

If you want to support financially the Committee, you can donate to ATD Ireland who is currently running the Committee secretariat.
