Just before 17 October: A human rights analysis of Budget 2015 from Irish civil society

With Irish Budget 2015 presented on Tuesday 14 October, and UN Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17 october, FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres) is organising a post-budget seminar, Fairer Budget, Fairer Society: A human rights analysis of Budget 2015 from Irish civil society on Thursday 16 October 10am-12pm in the European Parliament Information Office on 43 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2.

Fairer Budget, Fairer Society: A human rights analysis of Budget 2015 from Irish civil society

10:00-12:00, Thursday 16 October 2014

European Parliament Information Office on 43 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2

FLAC and the Equality Budgeting Campaign coordinated a similar event on 17 October 2013, facilitated by PILA, which saw a superb turnout and input from civil society organisations and a lively discussion and analysis around the impact of the budget’s decisions and processes.

FLAC hopes to build on the clear interest in the human rights approach to budgeting from last year by again coordinating civil society organisations this year to advocate for a fairer budget.

As last year, FLAC is asking organisations to complete a short survey with key questions about how human rights were considered in Budget 2015, to be completed by 12pm on 15 October, the day after the budget.

At the seminar, FLAC will present an analysis of the results of the surveys, keeping in mind the State’s human rights obligations.

In the final part of the seminar, organisations will take the floor to voice their reactions to Budget 2015, considering the human rights impact on the people they work with and highlighting what recommendations they believe could lead to a fairer budget.

After the event FLAC will put together a report, including the key concepts from the presentations on the day, the analysis of the budget with survey results and commentary from organisations on the day.

FLAC would be grateful if organisation/individuals could confirm participation in this survey and event via e-mail (Yvonne.OSullivan@flac.ie). The survey link and a briefing document on the human rights approach to budgeting will be sent to you in advance of Budget Day which will help you with the survey content and with information on how the human rights approach to budgeting can be utilised by NGOs.
