In July 2018, members of the Irish 17 October Committee had an opportunity to visit the UN Garden at the United Nations’ HQ in New York!
During the visit we discovered that in the very same way as in Dublin, the 17 October End Poverty Stone at the UN was now a few meters away from the Famine Memorial.
The strong symbolic connection we see and celebrate in Dublin (the past and the future, the depair and the hope, the injustice and the achievement of Human Rights… ) is also there in New York.
We hope that we can build on this strong similarity in the future and create even more connections between the Irish events around the UN End Poverty Day and the UN HQ events! Good Craic! #Ireland4SDGs & #Goal1!
Here are a few pictures from New York (and two from Dublin)!
